Music of Rimsky-Korsakov

One of the celebrated Russian nationalist group of composers, Rimsky0Korsakov (1844-1908) was noted for highly colourful and descriptive orchestrations. Grove states: His art was rooted in the Russian soil, and the national element pervades it like a subtle by unmistakable aroma.

This arrangement is designed to throw into relief the changing colours and moods of his music, hence the designation, Kaleidoscope. Excerpts are chosen from the following works:
