No. 438 March - Christ is risen! (Charles Craig)
This march, as its title implies, was written for Easter morning celebrations. The opening two bars states 'Up from the grave he arose' (T.B. 905). At section B, the chorus of Graham Kendrick's song, In the tomb so cold is presented. The words associated with this are:
Christ is risen! Christ is risen!
Death has been conquered.
Christ is risen! Christ is risen!
He shall reign for ever.
Unusually for the present day, this march has a D.C., an instruction which is recommended by the composer. Section B should not be repeated on the D.C.
No. 439 Stepping On! (Mark Bearcroft)
Major Mark Bearcroft is currently serving as Assistant Regional Officer for the Middle East Region. This bright work features songs used throughout the years within The Salvation Army. It could also be features as a sing-along with congregational participation.
No. 440 Let there be rock! (Martin Cordner)
Jeff Switxer's gospel song Lift my voice is featured in the first section of this fun and catchy piece. The words of this song say:
I'm gonna lift my voice,
Lift it like a trumpet.
I'm gonna let hosannas ring.
I'm gonna clap my hands.
I'm gonna sing for joy;
Lift his praises high!
No. 441 (1) Locus Iste (Bruckner trs. Edward Mylechreest)
Bruckner wrote the choral work, Locus Iste, in 1869 for the dedication of a new chapel at the New Cathedral, in Linz, Austria, where he was the organist. It has gone on to be one of his most loved and most frequently performed compositions, often at the dedication of new buildings.
No. 441 (2) God's Garden (Beethoven trs. Malcolm Snell)
This lovely music by Beethoven has long been associated, within Salvation Army circles, with Anthony Leggett's words, which say:
Author of beauty, I humbly enter thy garden
To rest awhile midst its warm and fragrant tranquility.
Here, in thy keeping, apart from the turmoil and toiling
My thankful heart may respond to all the love shown to me.
