This disc presents a broad picture of the music I composed and arranged for brass band during my long association with Grimethorpe Colliery Band and later involvement with Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag. For good measure two tracks feature the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble of which I was a member.
The music is eclectic in style. Influences are obvious, from the Walton-esque Temple Bar Fanfare, to the 'recomposition' of Dufay's Pasce Tuos and from a Copland inspired Hoe-down, to the Messiaen-style harmony of Songs for B.L..
We have tried to be fair to each band who are heard here more or less equally, but it is true that at the end of my banding career most of the recording of my own works was taken by the Norwegian Band.
