In July 2013, Cory Band took part in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Holland. The test-piece on that occasion was Goldberg 2012 (Svein H Giske). Taking J.S.Bach's Goldberg Variations as its starting point, it is one of the most complicated and detailed scores ever to be written for a brass band. One of the most interesting and original sections of the work is called Transmogrifying Bach where Giske starts with pure Bach but immediately proceeds into pure brass band fantasy! This concept provides the basis for this recording where all the works make some reference or other to centuries-old music, which then becomes part of the fabric of a wholly brass invention.
